Birth of the Golden Egg, 2018
Mixed Media
Size: Variable

Recorded sounds of cackling hens lurk in the background but they do not disturb the serenity of the installation. A silent, private event is happening that makes you hold your breath. Brahmanda, the cosmic, golden egg is emerging from the primeval skies. We are not born yet as this happened so very early in time. The Brahmanda is the beginning of creativity. The sky is symbolised by a darkly polished coop, replicated many fold as are the glossy golden primordial eggs. Light creates shadows against the grey walls and floors, catching the lines of the coops into strange shapes. Reality and Illusion are always present even when the golden egg is born.

BIOGRAPHY

Paresh Maity is an artist and practitioner who fits into this dynamic, evolving space – he reinvents himself, takes his visual vocabulary through journeys of experimentation and is not afraid to change or learn. And yet, something deeply embedded in his consciousness forms the thread that connects everything in his oeuvre.

Along his artistic journey, that has been physical, aesthetic and spiritual, Paresh Maity has created streams of interconnected understanding between the various mediums or tools he chose to express with. The shifting material and surface simply acts as an interface for conceptual underpinnings that were continually developing and becoming part of his projected narratives; if there is much layered beauty in the visuality of his work, there is equally layered emotional and intellectual content underlying the surface of the work.

His journey through mediums has been one of spontaneity, and experimentation, and sheer commitment to being an artist. The vastness of his visual experience has reflected in large bodies of paintings, drawings, installations, photographs, mixed media work, sculptures and even film. His is a repertoire that envelopes the minimal as well as the lushly adorned, the miniature as well as the monumental.
