Dhruva Mistry

Dhruva Mistry was born in 1957,in Kanjari ,Gujarat,India. He studied at the Faculty of Fine Arts, M. S.University of Baroda from 1974-81, then at the Royal College of Art, London from 1981-83 on a British Council Scholarship. His work has been included in group shows in India and abroad since 1976.He has first solo exhibition at Art Heritage,New Delhi, which toured to Jehangir Art Gallery in Mumbai in 1982, by Mr and Mrs Alkazi. 1984-85. He was artist in residence at Kettle’s Yard Gallery with a Fellowship at Churchill College in Cambridge, and since then he has shown extensively in the United Kingdom and abroad. Public collections include Lalit Kala Akademi, National Gallery of Modern Art in New Delh;. Tate Gallery; Arts Council; The British Council and Victoria & Albert Museum, London, and National Museum of Wales, Cardiff in U.K. and Fukuoka Asian Art Museum in Japan. Open Air Collections include Sculpture at Goodwood, Sussex and Yorkshire Sculpture Park in the U.K., Hakone Open Air Museum, Japan. Major Commissions include sculptures for the Victoria Square in Birmingham, U.K and Tamano City,Japan. He returned to Vadodara in 1997 and was aAppointed Professor, Head of Sculpture, and Dean, Faculty of Fine Arts, M.S.U, Baroda. He was awarded an Honorary CBE (Commander of the most excellent Order of the British Empire) in 2001
