Jogen Chowdary

The artist and poet Jogen Chowdury was born in Faridpur, Bengal, and studied at the Govt. College of Art & Crafts, Kolkata. He won a French Govt. Schoarship to the Ecole Nationale Superieure de Beauex Art, Paris. In 1966 he was the recepient of the Prix de France de la Jeune Peinture as well as the Havana Biennale Award. Choudhury returned to India in 1970 and in 1972 was appointed Curator of Rastrpathi Bhavan in New Delh. He has exhibited widely in India and abroad, including the II, III, IV Triennales, New Delhi(1972, ’75, ’78), Sao Paolo Biennale, Brazil (1979),Fukuoka Museum, Japan (1980), Royal Academy, London (1982), Hirschorn Museum, Washington D.C. (1982), Festival of India, France (1985), II Havana Biennale, Cuba (1986), Olympiad of Art, Seoul (1988) and Festival of India, Geneva (1989).His work is in many major collections, including those of the NGMA, New Delhi, The Victoria & Albert Museum, London and the Glenbarra Museum, Japan. Jogen lives and works in Santinketan, W. Bengal.
