Karl Antao

Karl Antao obtained his BFA (Applied Arts) from JJ Institute, Mumbai with a 2nd in Maharastra, 1986-1991. His professional experience includes his being Graphic Designer,Communica, Mumbai from 1988-1989; Set Designer & Visualiser, Cyclops, Mumbai,1989-1991; Visualiser for Lintas, Mumbai, 1991-1992. He worked in the sculpture studio of Kanoria Centre for the Arts, 1992-1996 and was faculty of the same from 1994-1996.He was Visiting Faculty at the School of Architecture 1997-2001. Antao has shown in solo exhibitions extensively, some of the more recent being Unseen Truth, Gallery Sumukha, Bangalore & Chennai, 2007; Sakshi Gallery, Mumbai, 1999 and 2003 and at Hutcheesing Visual Art Centre, Ahmedabad, 1993. He has participated in various group shows since 1987, some of which were atChester Herwitz Gallery, Ahmedabad; 25 years of Cymroza Art Gallery, Mumbai. He has attended many camps such as the CEAT camp, 1995; All India Artists’ Camp at Hotel Oberoi, Mumbai, 1998 and more recently Voltas National Level Camp, Mumbai,2000; Kerala International Sculptures’ Camp, 2001; ; Puppet making with tribals in Vijayanagr, 1993; workshop for women in terracotta & metal casting in Kanoria Centre for the Arts, 1996. Antao is recipient of the Silver Medal from Govt. of Maharastra and the Lintas Worldwide Silver Medal for the Best Campaign,1991 and Sistas Prize for best campaign on consumer products,1991.In 1992 he received the All India Arts Society, Mumbai,Best Sculpture award, 1993. Anato was in Residency Programme with Indian School of Business,Hyderabad, 2003.He lives and works in Ahmedabad, India.
